LGBTQ+ is an acronym that stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and other gender identities and sexual orientations not explicitly listed in the acronym. The "+" symbol signifies the vast diversity of identities within LGBTQ+. Among them Transgender means those whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. It can be Trans Men or Trans Women.

Transgender Women are women who were assigned Male at birth. They have a female identity and may experience gender dysphoria, mean distress brought upon by the discrepancy between a person's gender identity and their sex assigned at birth. Gender dysphoria may be treated with gender affirming care. Gender affirming care may include social and medical transition. Social transition may include adopting a new name, hairstyle, clothing style and set of pronouns associated with the individual's affirmed gender identity. A major component of medical transition for trans women is feminizing hormone therapy which cause the development of female secondary sex characteristics.

These kind of people are treated in inhuman way by the society. So they hide their actually identities and act according to the society. Because they think that it is against for the societies perspectives. And they fear to change their appearance, to be themselves. So they live with a stress and they feel more uncomfortable. Because they live in a wrong body. But they are also human like us. It is just their identity. They should have equal right to live freely without any ignorance, shyness, disrespectful or guilty. We have no reason to look them in special way or laugh at them. They also general people. In past  time they have many challenges to raise their voices and they are limited to a small space. But nowadays they have a space to talk about themselves and to be a person with their own identities. In the world more people have created their own identities infront of whole world. Like that in SriLanka also this kind of people have created their own circle by being a member of LGBTQ+ community.

One of the great example is First Transgender Candidate in SriLanka for 2024 Parliamentary election. She is Chanu Nimesha. She is the first openly transgender candidate, hoping to forge a more inclusive and tolerant political culture on the South Asia Island.  Transgender people are estimated to make up about 1% of Sri Lanka's 22 million people according to Equal Ground a local civil society group. They frequently face social rejection, lack legal protection and have almost no representation in political parties. She said she was the first transgender person to run for a seat in the 225 strong parliament and that her message of social justice had been well received.

She said " I'm not concerned about winning or losing. But it is important for me to be present in this space, to be seen, to be inspire others like me. I want to help everyone, not just my community. As human beings, what is important to us is humanity, not whether we are men or women. We don't have such a society. We are contesting elections to make a change in society. This is just another step in that process."

She raised her voice not only for their community but also for Sri Lankans...
